The Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law has a world-wide reputation for excellence. Many of the academic staff are international leaders in their fields. Staff hail from multidisciplinary backgrounds and their interests cover a broad range of topics, providing ties to disciplines such as anthropology, psychology, the humanities and law. It is the largest centre for criminological research in the Nordic countries, and the only one of its kind in Norway. The Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law is part of the Faculty of Law, one of eight faculties at the University of Oslo (UiO). UiO, founded in 1811, is Norway's leading institution of research and higher education, with approximately 4500 graduates per year.
