Fighting environmental crime in Europe and beyond: Findings of an EU-funded international research project on green criminology

An edited volume, Fighting Environmental Crime in Europe and Beyond: The Role of the EU and Its Member States, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in March 2017 following the conclusion of the EFFACE project. The edited volume summarizes research undertaken in EFFACE and consists of six case studies conducted during the project on different types of environmental crime.

Final EFFACE report on environmental crime and the EU

The report presents the core results of 40 months of interdisciplinary research in an accessible manner. Individual sections describe the availability of data on environmental crime and its impacts, instruments and institutions of relevance to fighting environmental crime at EU and Member State level and weaknesses in the EU's approach to combatting environmental crime.

Study on wildlife crime in the EU published by EFFACE researchers

In the context of the preparation of the EU Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking, the European Parliament comissioned a study to analyse wildlife crime in the EU and the enforcement situation in Member States. The study, completed in February 2016, was compiled by a consortium led by Ecologic Institute and comprising several other EFFACE partners.

EFFACE conclusions and recommendations

This report presents the conclusions and policy recommendations of EFFACE. They are based on earlier research done in EFFACE, which included legal analysis, data analysis, various case studies, and an analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of the current approach of the EU to combating environmental crime.

Evaluation of the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities associated with EU efforts to combat environmental crime

The report brings together insights of the current approach of the EU and its Member States in combatting environmental crime, as a basis to later develop policy recommendations.

EFFACE Workshop in The Hague on "Environmental Crime in the EU: Is There a Need for Further Harmonisation?"

On 8 September 2015, EFFACE held a workshop in Den Hague in the Netherlands. The workshop was organized by project partners METRO in cooperation with the Institute for Environmental Security (IES) and hosted by Europol.

Reports on the Quantified Impacts and Costs of Environmental Crime

These reports aim to provide a quantitative assessment and economic valuation of the impacts of environmental crime in several thematic areas where there existed sufficient data, and provide an in-depth analysis where sufficient data could inform an analysis.

Involving Stakeholders in Environmental Crime Policy Research

This report provides an account of how stakeholders are involved in an "Interactive Policy Analysis" to generate input, feedback and mutual learning with and among stakeholders. This effort is directly linked to the project's action on "Stakeholder Involvement and Dissemination", which aims to draw on relevant expert and stakeholder knowledge and insights as a way of informing research activities and road testing results.
